After installing the updates or service pack, getting error message accessing the site “Server error: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=96177”

with 3 comments

–installed an update or service pack
–when accessing the sites, getting error message
–In the event viewer also getting event IDs like 5617, 100, 104 etc

SYMPTOMS:
—————–
–none

ERROR MESSAGE:
————————–
–“Server error: <http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=96177>”

CAUSE:
———–
–Windows Update
–service pack installation
–any server update
Method 1:
========
–Checked the services.msc
–Check the “Windows SharePoint Services account” 
–If it is running under the user “local system”, change it to correct domain account.
–Reset the account again in the Central admin –> services on Sever –> Windows
SharePoint Services Help – successfully
–Run the command

Psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -wait command

–Perform an IISRESET
–Open the site and it should work

Method 2:
=======
–create a new web application with a new dummy database
–Go to central admin-Application Management-content databases
–change the web application to the new one which you have created and detached the database
–Again change the web application to the problem site and detached the database for that web application as well
–now go to the command prompt and run the command

Stsadm -o addcontentdb -url <type new url address> -databasename <type database name>

  1. i have installed MOSS 2007 SP2(officeserver2007sp2-kb953334-x64-fullfile-en-us.exe).after this sharepoint server search is working fine.
