SharePoint 2013: Site in Read only mode

leave a comment »

SharePoint site is  in read only mode & the following message would show up when users browsed to the site.
“We apologize for any inconvenience, but we’ve made the site read only while we’re making some improvements.”

When we Go to “Site collection Quota & locks” in Central Admin & here is how the Status looks like. It is locked as “Read only” & all settings are grayed out.

The way to clear this flag is use the ClearMaintenanceMode method. Here is how it can be done via SharePoint Management Shell

# $Admin = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPSiteAdministration(‘http://<Site Collection URL>)

Preventing me from adding any additional column in existing list and /_layouts/mngfield.aspx extremely slow to load for sub sites

leave a comment »

1. Trying to ‘Add from existing site columns‘ to one of my SharePoint lists on a http://SiteUrl
An unexpected error has occurred.
Correlation ID: GUID

2. Click on Site Settings->Site Columns ( http://SiteUrl/_layouts/mngfield.aspx ) extremely slow to load for sub sites

Root cause:

Looking up that Correlation ID in the SharePoint 2013 ULS logs I saw this error:

“Error when access /_layouts/15/AddFieldFromTemplate.aspx, Error=No two choices should have the same ID at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.ChoiceComparerWithDefaultGroup.Compare”

Found two Site Columns in http://SiteUrl Site that was using the same internal name, and that Site column was associated with list which is preventing me from adding any additional columns.

By browsing to the Site Collection Site Columns (<Site Url>/_layouts/mngfield.aspx ) I noticed under one of Site Column Group that there were two Site Columns listed with the same “CoulmnName”,

We need to remove duplicate Site Columns from that Site Column Group.

DocAve: cannot copy/move List to Library or Library to List. Please select another node.

leave a comment »

When trying to run a list library migration from source to destination, you will receive below error message on DocAve Console which will not allow to initiate the migration itself.

This occurs when you have a list already present on destination with all the columns same as source.

Cannot copy/move List to Library or Library to List. Please select another node.

This is by Design.

DocAve tries to match List Template Type as soon as you highlight source and destination list libraries i.e. ctx.ListTemplateType

If the source and destination have unique (different) IDs for ctx.ListTemplateType

Then the job it self will not be created by DocAve console.

There is not much options available for this issue. We tried following:

Option 1

Migrate the entire source list to destination site collection as a new list library

Option 2

Using any method possible, change the Destination List Template Type to match with Source List Template Type.

Here is the attach list template type file provide by Microsoft, Which are Out Of Box list types. ListTypesAndTemplateIDs

You can find your List Template ID by following Praveen Hebbar post here

This issue occurs due to custom list created using code or any other method on destination site collection.

You have recently deleted a list library with same Title/Name which you are currently migrating from source to destination farm.

In the destination site collection, Please navigate to :

Recycle Bin

Ensure the delete list is also delete from below two levels of recycle bins:
