leave a comment »

Requirement:

How to find all search crawl property in a TEXT or EXCEL file for a specific site collection using PowerShell

Resolution:

1st Phase:

Find the GUID for site collection by running below script from Windows PowerShell ISE on any of the sharepoint servers in farm.

Add-PSSnapin “Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell”
$site = Get-SPSite https://sharepoint.contoso.com/sites/SP2013
$siteguid = $site.id
echo $siteguid

2nd Phase

Once you got the GUID for site collection from phase 1, run below script

Add-PSSnapin “Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell”

Get-SPEnterpriseSearchMetadataCrawledProperty -SearchApplication $searchapp -SiteCollection <Site_GUID> -limit All >C:\Temp\crawlproperty.csv

SharePoint 2013: Site in Read only mode

leave a comment »

Issue:
SharePoint site is  in read only mode & the following message would show up when users browsed to the site.
“We apologize for any inconvenience, but we’ve made the site read only while we’re making some improvements.”

Image1

When we Go to “Site collection Quota & locks” in Central Admin & here is how the Status looks like. It is locked as “Read only” & all settings are grayed out.
Image2

Solution:

The way to clear this flag is use the ClearMaintenanceMode method. Here is how it can be done via SharePoint Management Shell

# $Admin = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPSiteAdministration(‘http://<Site Collection URL>)
$Admin.ClearMaintenanceMode()

Preventing me from adding any additional column in existing list and /_layouts/mngfield.aspx extremely slow to load for sub sites

leave a comment »

Issues:

1. Trying to ‘Add from existing site columns‘ to one of my SharePoint lists on a http://SiteUrl
——————————————————————
Error
An unexpected error has occurred.
Correlation ID: GUID

Preventing

—————————————————————–
2. Click on Site Settings->Site Columns ( http://SiteUrl/_layouts/mngfield.aspx ) extremely slow to load for sub sites

Root cause:

Looking up that Correlation ID in the SharePoint 2013 ULS logs I saw this error:

“Error when access /_layouts/15/AddFieldFromTemplate.aspx, Error=No two choices should have the same ID at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.ChoiceComparerWithDefaultGroup.Compare”

Found two Site Columns in http://SiteUrl Site that was using the same internal name, and that Site column was associated with list which is preventing me from adding any additional columns.

By browsing to the Site Collection Site Columns (<Site Url>/_layouts/mngfield.aspx ) I noticed under one of Site Column Group that there were two Site Columns listed with the same “CoulmnName”,

Solution:
We need to remove duplicate Site Columns from that Site Column Group.

SharePoint 2013: “Access Denied” to Access Requests list

leave a comment »

ISSUE:

User is trying to approve access request generated by users to grant them access but he is getting “Access Denied” or ‘Sorry, this site hasn’t been shared with you’ error message which user is getting while accessing Access Requests list i.e.

https://<site_Collection>/Access%20Requests/pendingreq.aspx

RESOLUTION:

The steps to fix the problem is same as what has been described in this MS article here which talks about issue in SharePoint Online.

I used above steps for my on premise SharePoint 2013 and it gave at least direction to fix the issue.

Please note that each subsite in a site collection have unique Access Requests list.

Site Admin tends to make each list with unique permission on each list in each subsite.

Hence while you are following Microsoft article to find the list GUID for Access Requests list, Please ensure that you do the same steps for each subsite and not use the same GUID.

Example:

Root Site Collection
https://<Site_Collection>/_layouts/15/ListEdit.aspx?List=7497c9f3-9ab9-4a76-8b01-ad7af14d56aa

Subsite_1

https://<Site_Collection>/Subsite_1/_layouts/15/ListEdit.aspx?List={61ca18a3-fe2f-4517-b19f-6f52e2e63348}

Subsite_2

https://<Site_Collection>/Subsite_2/_layouts/15/ListEdit.aspx?List={62512b82-25c2-4e90-8985-66f6afee1be7}

SharePoint 2013 : Search Component Error

leave a comment »

BlogIssue:

While trying to create new “Content Processing Component” and activating the topology, we are getting below error:

02/08/2016 14:00:05.88 powershell_ise.exe (0x23E4) 0x1170 SharePoint Foundation PowerShell 6tf2 High Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.Topology.SearchTopologyActivationException: Topology activation failed. Service call AddNodeMapping failed with message ‘Exception while communicating with Host Controller at ServerName: No matching nodes found for the specified system and node name [SystemName = 9EB7B3, NodeName = ContentProcessingComponent3]’ at Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.Topology.SearchTopology.ActivateSilently() at Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.Topology.SearchTopology.Activate() at Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPCmdlet.ProcessRecord() 7c54cdb3-43ec-4736-ae7f-8fb1be49c252

Resolution:

The issue would be occurring on the particular server where you are provisioning the new component. Hence please do below steps on that particular server:

1. From services.msc on server, Restart “SharePoint Search Host Controller” Service
2. Within Services.msc stop “SharePoint Timer Service”

Assuming you default SharePoint installation location is C Drive, We are going to do config cache clear step i.e.

1. Open Windows explorer and go to C Drive
2. Locate C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config\GUID and make copy of GUID folder
3. Delete all the XML files inside the GUID folder except Cache.ini
4. Open Cache.ini and replace the current value with any random value.
5. Save the Cache.ini
6. Go to services.msc again and start “SharePoint Timer Service”
7. Wait for all the XML to generate and then match the generate XML count with any other server in farm

Now you should run below Powershell commands to provision your search component (PS. You can have your script)

##Creating all variables##
$hostA = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -Identity “ServerName”
$ssa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication
$active = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -SearchApplication $ssa -Active
$clone = New-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -SearchApplication $ssa -Clone -SearchTopology $active

##Creating new Content processing Component##
New-SPEnterpriseSearchContentProcessingComponent -SearchTopology $clone -SearchServiceInstance $hostA

Get-SPEnterpriseSearchComponent -SearchTopology $clone

##Setting up new topology##
Set-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -Identity $clone

##Verifying the topology##
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -Active -SearchApplication $ssa
